Background

9 Thoughts Productions was formed by a group of film professionals in Los Angeles, California, who all shared a love for The Outlaws DC Comics series and wanted to produce a sizzle to pitch as a proof of concept to Warner Bros. television.

Here is some of the background from the production’s Indiegogo page:

“While our team's ultimate goal is to pitch a 6-episode (45-60 min. each) limited series to Warner Bros. Television, the focus of this campaign is on raising money to create a short sizzle with a high production value and that alone. The short sizzle that we shoot (from the money that's raised) will be included in the aforementioned pitch to Warner Bros. Television.

The short sizzle will be an action/horror/drama. With Jason and Roy's characters, it's hard to avoid injecting humor into the script since they play so well off one another. However, the situation they are in during the course of this short sizzle and the battle that lies before them in it requires their full focus, with little room to clown around. Assuming that the short sizzle leads to a full-length show getting picked up by Warner Bros. Television, our team would want them to match tonally.

The short sizzle and written full-length episodes focus primarily on Jason Todd, Roy Harper, and Koriand'r. There will not be any big-name characters in the DC Universe (i.e. Batman, Superman) showing up, as we want to keep the focus on our main dysfunctional trio and really explore them as characters. Adding tentpole superheroes of the DC brand would only detract from the function and flow of the existing written story. (That's not to say there won't be some surprise familiar characters).”

Project

SMP’s part of the project was designing and creating Roy Harper/Arsenal’s chest armor and torso and creating Koriand’r/Starfire’s complete suit based on an existing concept drawing. The first step was to take the Kori sketch and create a rendering that clearly outlined seam lines and different fabrics. A similar rendering was also created for Roy’s chest armor.

After reviewing the concepts with the director, writer and producer, mock-ups were built and sent for initial fittings and notes.

Once the fittings and designs were reviewed and agreed upon, the actual build began. Below are some of the completed pieces before being sent to L.A.
